This should not be taken as a personal recommendation to buy or sell a particular ETF. Instead it is simply an indication of the general buying and selling trends of our customers.

Those making up the list focus on UK index trackers, dividend income, gold, S&P 500, property and world index exposure.

Below we have provided a little extra detail about each of these popular ETFs.

ISHARES CORE FTSE 100 UCITS

This ETF falls into the UK tracking category and aims to track the performance of the FTSE 100 Index as closely as possible. It invests in physical index securities and offers exposure to the 100 largest UK stocks by full market value. The iShares ETFs are funds managed by BlackRock.

UK DIVIDEND UCITS ETF

This ETF fits in the dividend income category and aims to track the performance of the FTSE UK Dividend+ Index as closely as possible and invests in physical index securities. The FTSE UK Dividend+ Index offers exposure to the 50 highest yielding UK stocks within the universe of the FTSE 350 Index, excluding investment trusts. They are selected and weighted by one-year forecast dividend yield. The iShares ETFs are funds managed by BlackRock.

VANGUARD FTSE100 ETF UCITS

Like the iShares Core FTSE 100 UCITS, this ETF fits in the UK tracker category and aims to track the performance of the FTSE 100 Index as closely as possible. The fund aims to track the performance of the Index by investing in all constituent securities of the Index in the same proportion as the Index. Vanguard ETFs offer flexible and easy access to a wide range of markets and asset classes.

FTSE 250 UCITS ETF

The aim of this ETF is to provide the performance of the FTSE 250 Index. The FTSE 250 TR is a capitalisation-weighted index of the 250 most highly capitalised companies, after excluding the FTSE 100, traded on the London Stock Exchange. Those 250 companies represent approximately 15% of the UK market capitalisation. The fund was launched in 2004, and distributes any dividend proceeds quarterly.

ETFS PHYSICAL GOLD (GBP)

The ETFS Physical Gold is designed to offer investors a simple, cost-efficient and secure way to access the precious metals market, particularly in the gold market. ETFS Physical Gold is intended to provide investors with a return equivalent to movements in the gold spot price less fees. The physical gold is held with HSBC. Note: the price of precious metals is generally quoted in US Dollars, the Sterling value will therefore be affected by changes in the exchange rate.

VANGUARD FTSE250 UCITS ETF

This is another UK tracker focused ETF that aims to track the performance of the FTSE 250 Index as closely as possible. The ETF invests in physical index securities and offers exposure to 250 UK stocks which rank below the FTSE 100 Index, measured by full market capitalisation.

S&P 500 UCITS ETF INC GBP

This is the highest S&P 500 focused ETF in the top ten. The investment objective of the Fund is to deliver the net total return performance of the Reference Index (being the S&P 500), less the fees and expenses and transaction costs of the Fund. The Reference Index is an equity index of securities which focuses on the large cap segment of the US market, and includes stocks which are generally incorporated in the United States of America. Note: This ETF is trading in Sterling, so remember movements in currency exchange rates can affect the return of investments.

ETFS PHYSICAL GOLD (USD)

Another gold focused ETF but based in US Dollars. This is designed to offer investors a simple, cost-efficient and secure way to access the precious metals market. ETFS Physical Gold is intended to provide investors with a return equivalent to movements in the gold spot price less fees.

S&P 500 UCITS ETF GBP DIS

This ETF is very similar to the S&P 500 UCITS ETF GBP INC, just two places higher in the list. It adopts a similar strategy and the objective of the Fund is to deliver the net total return performance of the Reference Index (being the S&P 500). Dividend income is paid on these shares quarterly.

ISHS PHYS GOLD ETC USD (GBP)

The final ETF in the top ten, this one is another focusing on gold. Like the earlier listed ETFS Physical Gold (GBP), it aims to give investors a simple, cost-efficient and secure way to access the precious metals market but is listed in Sterling, so there is a currency risk as the underlying gold price is based in US Dollars.

Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) including ETFs, ETCs and ETNs track a wide variety of underlying investments, some of which may be complex in nature and involve leverage, shorting or a high degree of volatility. It is therefore important that you read the Prospectus or Fact Sheet (available on the issuers’ websites) prior to investing and ensure that you understand how it is structured and the associated risks.
